British Computer Society wants software patents in the EU?

Any members of the British Computer Society might be interested to note that this organisation, which is supposed to represent the interests of British software engineers, has been supporting pro-software patent groups according to FFII.If you are a member of the BCS and you are concerned about software patents, perhaps you should make your feelings known...

i have refused to be affiliated with the BCS for many years. it has been my position that the BCS is an outdated digital cult of free masonry! well in so far as it is nothing more than an old boys network. the unfortunate thing is that they are touting themsleves across campuses as a [reformed] ethics steering committee for industry practioners and a potential oversight body for corporations.

all they seem to do is be london centric
and re inforce the old proprietary way opf thinking protecting the potential IP of the big players like SAge accounts.
who will no doubt patent accounting processes particluar to UK law as their own. thus locking out OSS competition.

i grew sick of the BCS after losing contract after contract to BCS affiliated gofies like ex sewing machine engineers and then being called in to fix their MS Enterpise SQL fuckups time and time again.

the BCS should become recognised for what it is: a minority special interests group who are irrelevant to most of us.
unfortunateley, they rest easily as the defacto trade orgaisation in this field in GB. making non-conformance conspicous.
